ROLLER BOWL ’06 A SMASH HIT!! CENTRAL COAST ROLLER DERBY RAISES $5,000 FOR NORTH COUNTY WOMEN’S SHELTER
ROLLER BOWL ’06 brought to you by CENTRAL COAST ROLLER DERBY was a smash hit last Saturday night at the Paso Robles Events Center! Thanks to a sold out crowd of 1,200 fans in attendance, the women of Central Coast Roller Derby raised $5,000 for the North County Women’s Shelter in Paso Robles and Atascadero.
To get things rolling, the night kicked off with CCRD’s major sponsor 93.3 KZOZ broadcasting live from the event to get the party started while our good friends at DOWNTOWN BREWING CO. served up BBQ and beer (all donated) to the capacity crowd who rocked out to the sweet sounds of A*F*R*O (a Funk Rock Organization).
The game kicked off at 8 pm with the Hail Mary’s taking on the Tight Ends for this football themed Expo bout, which will be CCRD’s last home game of the year. It was a close bout for the first two periods with scores running neck and neck. But the Hail Mary’s pulled out the victory in the end defeating the Tight Ends 111 – 99.
“It was such an honor for us to do what we do for a sold out crowd and have proceeds go to such a good cause like the North County Women’s Shelter. Its important for us women to help other women in our own community”, says CCRD Co-Founder Rotten Peaches, blocker for the Hail Mary’s.
Next up, Central Coast Roller Derby will be taking on the Angel City Derby Girls from Los Angeles in Thousand Oaks on Dec. 16. And CCRD is currently recruiting skaters to build two more teams to add to the CCRD family. CCRD’s 2007 season will kick off Feb. 3 at the Paso Robles Events Center.

CCRD was founded in January 2006, by skaters Rotten Peaches and Senorita Cheeba who were looking for something fun to be involved in. A way to blow off steam, meet like-minded women on the Central Coast, and burn 635 calories an hour! CCRD was born, BY local women, FOR local women (who can’t afford anger management)! Our goal as a Non-Profit organization is to promote the empowerment of women of all ages who are looking for modern strong independent female role models. We also plan to donate monies every year to local women and children charities in need of help.
